Well, here I am again. This time, I will recount the wonderful tales of my trip down exercise lane where I lost over three stone in four weeks.
If only.
The idea behind the exercising was two fold. Getting out and doing exercise is something that can increase the bodies production of certain chemicals which help to ease stress, which is handy. And I am fat. So exercise is handy twice over I suppose. First, I attempted to work on the Nintendo wii fit. Now don't get me wrong, the wii fit is an incredible piece of technology. But I just couldn't connect with it, and find the little robot a patronising little git. So, after a nudge from my wife I stepped onto the ea sports active on the wii. This is much more 'grown up' and worked with me to a point. The point being despite all the changes in activities, I kind of got bored. I don't actually know why. I just did.
Maybe I lack the staying power to run these things the full course. I just felt that something wasn't clicking.
Then, I stumbled upon a mountain bike on eBay. £27.50 later, and a meeting with a very bizarre Polish family in Macclesfield and I had a bike. The bike is far from perfect, and has needed a lot of work, but I love being out on it, riding by the canal. Unfortunately, I have been off the bike for a few days, due to the fact I had begun walking like John Wayne. An upgraded saddle purchased and I feel ready to ride again. Well my bum does. Then the great British summer hit. Over and over again.
To sum up, if you suffer from anxiety or depression based illnesses then I would certainly recommend cycling. Not only as a form of exercise, but also, if you can get out in the countryside it helps to achieve a feeling of peacefulness. To be able to hear your thoughts and try to put them in some sort of order.
So the moral of today's episode is: EBay is sometimes handy, even if you end up stood outside a house talking to a Polish woman with about 3 teeth, and exercise is an excellent method of controlling stress and anxiety. But cycling does make me ache in strange places. Too much info?
