So now I've let the cat out of the bag. The monkey on my back doesn't feel as heavy. I expect there will still be times when he pokes me in the eye, scratches my face or does a little pee down my neck, but I must admit to feeling much 'lighter' now.
I'm grateful for the messages I have received, it makes me feel like this was something worth doing. It has given me a fresh impetus.
So what now? Today, I've kept busy. The doctor told me the mind can only focus on one thing at a time, so keeping busy is a good way of settling the stormy seas of anxiety. Cleaning. Kept it simple, sorted the cupboards in the kitchen. Properly. Not like I usually do and pile it into a corner. In a weird way it was interesting. At least to realise that at some point I had an unhealthy obsession with Febreze. 4 bottles!
Been thinking about the points I made in yesterday's post. I want to say that I am not doing this as some sort of method of gaining sympathy for this 'monkey on my back'. I wanted to try to change the way people think, act and react to mental health issues. I know i am not in any way some sort of Bono shaped campaigning magician. Small steps still make changes though.
